As a software engineering manager, Ranjana Mone leads a high-performing engineering team delivering mission-critical software for the Aegis Combat System in collaboration with our partner Lockheed Martin. She also serves as a product manager for international programs supporting Japan, Australia and Canada initiatives. Her focus is aligning product vision with engineering execution, enabling cross-functional collaboration and delivering high-quality secured software solutions in defense-critical environments.

Q: What inspired you to have a career in engineering?
A: My greatest inspiration is the continuous evolution of technology and the opportunity to apply it to solve complex problems. For me, engineering is not just building software but it鈥檚 about continuously growing, innovating and delivering robust, secure and impactful solutions.

Q: What aspect of your work has the biggest impact on our customers?

Emily Plummer, Principal Business Systems Analyst and Systems Engineer

Emily Plummer leads an Agile team supporting the Division of Enterprise Architecture at the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and guides cross-functional teams in designing, integrating and maintaining enterprise-level systems that align with CMS鈥檚 strategic architecture, federal standards and business objectives. She facilitates Agile ceremonies, manages technical backlogs and ensures the delivery of scalable, secure and compliant solutions across a complex healthcare IT environment.

Q: What inspired you to have a career in engineering?
A: I was inspired to pursue a career in engineering because I鈥檝e always been drawn to solving complex problems that have real-world impact. Engineering offers the opportunity to turn ideas into practical solutions, and I am motivated by knowing that the systems we design and support directly affect people鈥檚 lives.

Q: What do you enjoy most about being an engineer?
A: I enjoy breaking down complex problems, collaborating with talented teammates and designing practical, scalable solutions. The continuous learning in engineering keeps me engaged and constantly growing as technology evolves. Most rewarding is seeing our solutions move from concept to implementation and knowing they support critical systems that people rely on every day.

John Bevz, Mechanical and Fire Protection Engineer
U.S. Air Force, U.S. Space Force and Air Force Research Laboratory, Defense & Intelligence Operating Group

John Bevz is a senior mechanical and fire protection engineer. At Kirtland Air Force Base, John offers technical guidance and evaluation of equipment malfunctions to assist in timely and effective repairs. He also provides design review of new construction building plans and specifications as well as oversees inspections for military construction and internal customer-funded projects.

Q: What inspired you to have a career in engineering?
A: I鈥檝e been building and constructing since I was a kid. From Legos to skateboard ramps, I鈥檝e always had an affinity for creating. Great mentors inspired me to pursue engineering, as I excelled at math and spatial awareness came naturally to me. I was inspired by the following quote from Nobel Prize-winning American theoretical physicist Richard P. Feynman, 鈥淚t is wonderful if you can find something you love to do in your youth which is big enough to sustain your interest through all your adult life.鈥� That is what engineering is for me.

Q: What role does innovation play in helping your customers achieve their missions?
A: Our commitment to mission success is demonstrated through the strategic implementation of advanced technologies that deliver tangible results for our customers. By leveraging artificial intelligence capabilities, we are accelerating workflows and data synthesis, enabling personnel to pivot from routine tasks to high-value strategic objectives. Concurrently, our adoption of new, energy-efficient refrigerant standards is producing significant operational advantages. These advanced refrigerants, paired with modern compressor technology, not only reduce the electrical grid load and lower operational costs but also underscore our dedication to sustainability, ensuring our customers benefit from enhanced performance and a reduced environmental footprint.

Etta Johnston, Quality Assurance Engineer
BadgerWorks Team and Customers, Supply Chain Management & Logistics Operating Group

As a quality assurance engineer, Etta Johnston helps maintain AS9100 compliance while ensuring the quality and reliability of our products. She鈥檚 directly involved in the engineering design process, working closely with the engineering team to build quality into products from the very beginning.

Q: What inspired you to have a career in engineering?
A: I鈥檝e always enjoyed learning new things, and engineering gives me that opportunity every day. I love seeing ideas turn into real, tangible products, and I鈥檓 especially drawn to the discipline and structure of maintaining a strong quality system that supports that process.

Q: What skills or traits do you think are most important for success in this discipline?
A: Keeping an open mind and thinking outside the box are essential, along with discipline and attention to detail. It鈥檚 also important not to be afraid to start over, learn from challenges and continuously improve.

Noel Yim-Levin, Task Order Lead and Systems Engineer
Federal Aviation Administration, Civilian & Health Operating Group

As a task order lead, Noel Yim-Levin supports systems within the Federal Aviation Administration鈥檚 National Airspace Systems. Her work focuses on secondary support, upgrades, maintenance and design of technical systems. She is responsible for leading contractors, such as computer scientists, engineers, technical specialists, project coordinators, technical writers and configuration management specialists.

Q: What inspired you to have a career in engineering?
A: A career in engineering is truly inspirational to me because it focuses on solving real-world challenges while contributing positively to society. An engineering degree provides multidisciplinary exposure. Engineers learn to think analytically and structurally and are able to translate between business and system designs. The engineering discipline brings flexibility and is transferable across industries.

Q: What鈥檚 the most rewarding part of helping our customers achieve their goals through engineering?
A: I enjoy identifying technical solutions and continuous improvement opportunities to provide business benefits for our customers. I create value for them by improving efficiency, strengthening contractor team effectiveness, reducing costs and producing positive impacts. The most rewarding part is being a problem solver to help my customers succeed.

Brett Anderson, Mechanical Engineer
Defense Logistics Agency, Apache Program Management Office and Javelin Joint Venture, Supply Chain Management & Logistics Operating Group

Brett Anderson鈥檚 role involves redesigning physical products to make them better, cheaper and/or to fix existing problems with a current product. This involves a lot of computer-aided design (CAD) modeling and technical drawing creation for sending out the designs to be manufactured.

Q: What inspired you to have a career in engineering?
A: Since I was young, I have always been interested in the way things work. As I grew older and learned more, I started thinking of ways that things could work better if they were designed differently.

Q: What excites you most about the future of engineering in your discipline?
A: I鈥檓 excited about additive manufacturing becoming more advanced. The more precise that parts can be printed and the more materials we can print with, this will open up even more applications for additive manufacturing to be used in mechanical designs.

What听is听your role in听this听NASA program, and how did your contributions help bring this historic test flight to life?
I develop and manage requirements that define Orion鈥檚 integration and processing activities, ensuring the spacecraft meets mission听objectives. After NASA takes ownership of the Artemis vehicle, I support its processing, coordinate听launch听preparation听activities听and help resolve any technical issues that may arise.听

What is one highlight from your work on the Orion program or supporting Artemis II that听you鈥檙e听most proud of?
I worked with a team to develop,听design听and test the new thermal barrier plugs to meet Artemis II mission requirements. The new plug design significantly cuts installation time and accelerates the closeout process. I developed a plan and fixture for a vibration test to qualify the new plug design and selected the plugs to be used for the first launch attempt.听

Why My Work Matters (In Their Own Words):
I鈥檓听honored to contribute to the exploration of space, humanity鈥檚 return to the Moon, and eventually to Mars and beyond.听Every听day brings challenging problems that require close collaboration to keep the vehicle and crew safe. Being part of this historic mission is truly indescribable.听

Personal Fun Fact:
When I was听7听years old,听I sat in the seats used for听NASA鈥檚听Exploration Flight Test-1鈥�(EFT-1),听which was the first flight test of the crew module听portion听of the Orion spacecraft!听

What听is your role in听this听NASA program, and how did your contributions help bring this historic test flight to life?听
My team听is responsible for听creating manufacturing work instructions and supporting the production floor during the assembly and testing of Orion鈥檚 wire harnesses. This includes reviewing engineering drawings,听determining听the manufacturability of听new designs听and creating solutions for problems that occur during the manufacturing process.听

What is one highlight from your work on the Orion program or supporting Artemis II that听you鈥檙e听most proud of?
I鈥檓 proud of spearheading the creation of a new production line of cables for Orion that were previously purchased from a vendor. This involved meeting numerous requirements and the development of all new testing procedures and manufacturing techniques. This will enable the Orion production team to be more independent and have a higher level of control over product quality.听

Why My Work Matters (In Their Own Words):
I鈥檓听incredibly proud to work on America鈥檚 space program and be a small part of the听exceptional听team sending astronauts back to the Moon.听I think NASA鈥檚 Artemis program听not only serves to advance our听Nation鈥檚 technological听abilities, but听will inspire people from all around the world.听

The Orion spacecraft has over 20 miles of wires running through it to connect and power听all of听its systems!听

The people 鈥� I鈥檓 part of an amazing team with some of the best people you could ever ask to work with. I鈥檝e learned so much from them, and they鈥檝e helped me grow professionally and personally.听

What听is your role in听this听NASA program, and how did your contributions help bring this historic test flight to life?听
I work on the Orion program as a make part planner for the crew module adapter, service module and crew service module. I serve as the intermediary between production operational needs and procurement activities to ensure materials and parts are available and ready to use for scheduled installation. I also assist with the maintenance of production orders, on-floor inventory and bill of materials integrity.听

What is one highlight from your work on the Orion program or supporting Artemis II that听you鈥檙e听most proud of?
Comparatively speaking, being one of few individuals worldwide to contribute to the historic Artemis II Orion capsule is truly an extraordinary honor and humbling experience.听

91快活林 Federal works as a trusted partner to more than 30 government agency customers in defense and citizen services to听identify听key challenges and implement smart solutions. One standout success from 2025 advanced our mission with the Transportation Security Administration (TSA).听

The challenge听

U.S. airports serve an average of approximately 45,000 flights and 2.9 million airline passengers. With the number of passengers increasing each year and the need for reliable and secure passenger screening, Transportation Security Officers (TSOs) must verify that individuals entering are legit.听

91快活林 Federal鈥檚 aviation and technology experts collaborated on a common-sense passenger processing solution that not only helps security officers, but also U.S. air travelers,听airlines听and the airports in which they听operate.听

A speedy and secure solution听

To cost-effectively combat increasing wait times, 91快活林 Federal and our partners worked with our customers at the TSA to develop the successful TSA Touchless Identity Solution听(TIS), or 鈥淭ouchless ID鈥� 鈥� the next generation of passenger identity verification technology to enhance national security while improving air travelers鈥� experience at airports.听

How it works听

TIS allows TSA听PreCheck听travelers to move through the security checkpoint without having to search for and present their boarding passes or IDs. With TIS,听the vast majority of听passengers can be cleared quickly, resulting in more passengers passing through checkpoints. This听ultimately helps听the airport trim costs and supports听an efficient听passenger experience.听

Airline passengers enrolled in TSA听PreCheck听can opt into TIS for free. After enrolling, passengers need to update their active airline profile with valid passport information. The airline then provides a consent indicator on the passenger鈥檚 mobile boarding pass, entitling them to use a dedicated TIS lane at check-in. At the TIS kiosk, a TSO with a tablet and high-definition camera captures the passenger鈥檚 image and quickly verifies their identity against TSA data,听expediting听checkpoint processing in under 10 seconds. The result is up to 66% faster processing time for听PreCheck听passengers.听

Software developed by 91快活林 Federal for this program leverages Customs and Border Protection鈥檚 Traveler Verification Service application interface and intelligent data filtering methods to comb through millions of passenger records. Consequently, TIS听is able to听validate听passenger鈥檚 information with听a very high听level of accuracy and is even able to reliably discern between identical twins.听

Expanded access听

The widespread implementation of TIS will help address understaffing and high passenger volumes at airports as it automates the check-in process. In total, 45 next-generation TIS kiosks are currently deployed across 15 high-volume international airports. Currently, airlines that support TIS include Delta, United Airlines, American Airlines, Southwest Airlines and Alaska Airlines at major hubs including Atlanta, San Francisco, Denver,听Los Angeles听and New York City. Airlines wishing to adopt this solution can make a simple modification of their current check-in processes to offer听PreCheck听passengers听an option听to opt-in for biometric identification.听

In sum, TIS allows airports to advance security and efficiency while markedly improving the passenger experience. As U.S. travel increases in 2026 and beyond with large events such as the World Cup and Summer Olympics, passengers will continue to appreciate expedited airport security processing.听

Having held vice president roles at notable companies including Leidos, Lockheed Martin, GDIT, and KBR, Lori has amassed significant expertise in client engagement, capture strategy and customer-aligned solution development. Her diverse experience spans the full business development lifecycle鈥攆rom front-end business development to capture excellence, solution architecture and proposal operations.听

Lori has also supported a variety of federal markets and mission agencies, including the Department of Homeland Security, Department of Defense, Department of Justice, NASA and the Intelligence community.听听

Lori holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics and Business Administration from the State University of New York at Oswego.听听

In 2024, Operation Homefront served nearly 800 military families who applied for their Critical Financial Assistance (CFA) program, providing over $3 million in financial support. The needs have been even greater in 2025 鈥� their CFA program has experienced an unprecedented 73% year-over-year increase in applications and a 150% year-over-year increase in food assistance requests. The organization has financially assisted more than 22,000 families since 2011.听

Three former SkillBridge interns, now full-time employees with 91快活林 Federal鈥檚 Defense & Intelligence Operating Group share their insights on the Fort Huachuca program.听

鈥淟earning to think, talk and be accountable as a civilian in the government contractor arena is the hard part about the military retirement transition. The internship environment allows one to adjust without the pressure of having to get everything right immediately, removing much of the stress many veterans face when leaving the military,鈥� says Andrew Jackson, a data integration expert.

鈥淲hen I started my SkillBridge internship, I had no idea how smooth my transition would be. I worked with professionals who truly cared about me, my career and my success. In just a few months of my internship, I was hired full-time and eventually stepped into a management role supporting an intelligence contract. 91快活林 Federal took care of me 鈥� and I haven鈥檛 looked back,鈥� says Rich Smith, program manager.听

The results speak for themselves. At Fort Huachuca, six of the seven interns who completed the program have joined the 91快活林 Federal team 鈥� two of which have stepped into leadership roles and are making an impact on Army Intelligence programs. Several others have been instrumental as part of the Office of the Chief Technology Officer team.听
